As Chairman of DIGIHUB and ICT Cluster Burgas, I took part in the panel “Innovation and Digital Transformation in Education” at the conference of the Diplomatic Institute and Burgas Free University. I shared the experience of the Burgas ecosystem – business, universities and the municipality – and why it matters for our future in the OECD.

It was a pleasure to take part in the conference “How Bulgaria’s OECD membership works for the success of young people”, organised by the Diplomatic Institute and Burgas Free University.
In my contribution I focused on three things:

  • An ecosystem built over time. From the founding of ICT Cluster Burgas 10 years ago, through DIGIHUB and the “test-before-invest” labs, to events such as Burgas Digital – this has been a consistent journey, not a one-off act.
  • Practice in education. Technology makes sense when it reaches the classroom and the lab – through projects, mentoring and links with business.
  • The OECD perspective. Accession around 2026 would mean a better investment climate and an even stronger focus on young people’s skills. Our work aims to accelerate this effect at local level.
Thank you to the organisers for the invitation and to all participants for the valuable discussion. I am glad that my colleague Stoyan Nikolov also presented the practical side – skills and the path to entrepreneurship.

About the OECD: An international organisation headquartered in Paris that supports governments in developing better public policies through analysis, comparisons and the exchange of good practices.
