GERB candidates for municipal councillors Milen Petrov and Petko Georgiev are joining forces for a cause of great public and social importance. After meetings with various people with disabilities and their organisations, they have focused their work on ensuring equal access for people with disabilities to the content of all websites serving entities operating in Burgas Municipality.

“Every day people with disabilities face many problems accessing portals that serve various institutions and provide administrative services online. Very often they struggle with complicated navigation, time limits for accessing certain content, missing subtitles on video content, or access only by mouse. As a member of the social affairs committee of the Municipal Council during the past term, I have discussed various options for change in this direction,” commented Milen Petrov.

The two GERB candidates for municipal councillors say that good examples of an online environment for people with special needs are the websites of Burgas Municipality and the Municipal Council, which are among the few accessible ones.

“We want all internet users who have impaired hearing or sight, mobility impairments, or who use a computer with their eyes and voice, to have equal conditions with other citizens. We call on all websites serving the institutions, businesses and civil society of Burgas to turn their attention to this problem. My colleague Milen Petrov and I declare our commitment and intentions in support of this cause. As someone with extensive experience in IT, I have ideas and proposals for equal access on the internet,” said Petko Georgiev.
